We compared their properties with those of a control sample of median-sized quiescent galaxies (re~4-8kpc) with similar effective velocity dispersions. MCGs have elevated rotational support, as evidenced by a strong anticorrelation between the Gauss-Hermite moment h3 and V/{sigma}. In contrast, 30 per cent of control sample galaxies (CSGs) are slow rotators, and fast-rotating CSGs generally show a weak h3-V/{sigma} anticorrelation. MCGs and CSGs have similar ages, but MCGs are more metal-rich and {alpha}-enhanced. Both MCGs and CSGs have shallow negative metallicity gradients and flat [{alpha}/Fe] gradients. On average, MCGs and CSGs have flat age gradients, but CSGs have a significantly larger dispersion of gradient values. The kinematics and SP properties of MCGs suggest that they experienced highly dissipative gas-rich events, such as mergers, followed by an intense, short, and centrally concentrated burst of star formation, between 4 and 10Gyr ago (z~0.4-2), and had a quiet accretion history since then. This sequence of events might be analogous to, although less extreme than, the compaction events that formed compact quiescent galaxies at z~2. The small sizes of MCGs, and the high efficiency and short duration of their last star formation episode suggest that they are descendants of compact post-starburst galaxies.</description><source format="bibcode">2021MNRAS.507..300S</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/507/300</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/154/86">J/AJ/154/86 : MaNGA catalog, DR15 (Wake+, 2017)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/507/300</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/507/300</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/507/300</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/507/300</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/507/300</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/507/300</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/507/300/tableb1 (Galaxy properties)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/507/300/tableb1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/507/300/tableb1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/507/300/tableb1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>121.5296031</ra><dec>39.3424261</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/4704 4712 4716 4750 4772 4786 4794 4830 4839 4846 4898 4937 4964 4992 4994 5030 5375 5471 5526 5532 5535 5565 5567 5576 5592 5600 5607 5617 5626 5677 5755 5800 5808 5816 5825 5827 5836 5844 5917-5918 5923 5958 5990 6215 6226 6231 6236 6242 6245 6268 6359 6396 6456 6532 6540 6544-6545 6553 6560 6564 6579 6582 6587 6589 6601 6605 6625 6633 6640 7175 7226 7313 7318 7324 7337 7360 8693 8890 8938 9039 9046 9065 9069 9251-9252 9254 9346 9348 9368 9370 9386 9468 9471 9483 9601 9640-9641 9780 9788 9817 9839 9914 9942-9943 9946 9986 10017 10063 10092 10113-10114 10181-10182 10194 10200 10247 10261 10263 10269-10270 10291 10294 10301 10304 10378-10380 10400 10428 10487 10621 10695 10707 10712-10713 10775 10869 10871 10941 10949 10952 10962 10978 11023 11035 11041 11058 11264 11271 11296 11311 11393 11403 11409 11433 12397 12552 17750 17753 17776 19096 19113 22719 23059 23101-23102 23144 23185 23187 23194 23201 23206 23208-23209 23216 23218 23232 27308 28151 28280 28283 30043 32680</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/507/300?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/507/300/tableb1</name><description>Galaxy properties</description><column><name>MaNGA</name><description>MaNGA ID, 1-NNNNNN</description><ucd>meta.id;meta.main</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType" arraysize="8*">char</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
