In this paper, we tackle this issue using the low-resolution spectra from narrow-band photometry, provided by the Physics of the Accelerating Universe survey. We find that, with the photometric fluxes from the 40 narrow-band filters and without including morphological information, it is possible to separate stars and galaxies to very high precision, 98.4 per cent purity with a completeness of 98.8 per cent for objects brighter than I=22.5. This precision is obtained with a convolutional neural network as a classification algorithm, applied to the objects' spectra. We have also applied the method to the ALHAMBRA photometric survey and we provide an updated classification for its Gold sample.</description><source format="bibcode">2019MNRAS.483..529C</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/483/529</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/441/2891">J/MNRAS/441/2891 : ALHAMBRA Survey (Molino+, 2014)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/483/529</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/483/529</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/483/529</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/483/529</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/483/529</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/483/529</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/483/529/tablea1 (The ALHAMBRA catalogue extension with CNN classification)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/483/529/tablea1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/483/529/tablea1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/483/529/tablea1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>214.6276</ra><dec>52.7694</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/2856 6814 6/5819 5822 7184-7185 10147 10150 10153 10155-10156 11227 11230 11249 11252 17766-17767 17772-17773 19691-19692 19694-19695 20036</spatial><spectral>2.0401237512456292e-19 2.706461185444514e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/483/529?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/483/529/tablea1</name><description>The ALHAMBRA catalogue extension with CNN classification</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
