It is now agreed that the {lambda} Boo phenomenon affects A stars of all ages, from star formation to the terminal age main sequence, but the cause of the chemical peculiarity is still a puzzle. We revisit the debate of their ages and temperatures in order to shed light on the phenomenon, using the new parallaxes in Gaia Data Release 1 with existing Hipparcos parallaxes and multicolour photometry. We find that no single formation mechanism is able to explain all the observations, and suggest that there are multiple channels producing {lambda} Boo spectra. The relative importance of these channels varies with age, temperature and environment.</description><source format="bibcode">2017MNRAS.466..546M</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/466/546</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/other/PASA/32.36">J/other/PASA/32.36 : lambda Boo star membership evaluations (Murphy+, 2015)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/466/546</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/466/546</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/466/546</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/466/546</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/466/546</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/466/546</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/466/546/table1 (Parameters for the 172 {lambda} Boo stars and candidates considered in this work, with Hipparcos or Gaia parallaxes)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/466/546/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/466/546/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/466/546/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>1.2906581</ra><dec>45.2290303</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/172 408 451 603 666 811 1114 1169 1885 1989 2747 2872 3420 3810 3849 4115 4206-4207 4249 4277 4687 4699 5253 5311 5318 5428 5446 5608 5762 5872 6442 7504 8494 8790 9125 9310 9995 10420 10459 10472 10695 10804 10900 10990 11851 12918 13474 13646 13723 13992 14224 14575 14640 14643 14906 15437 15472 15702 16104 16204 16543 16629 16703 17112 18431 19025 19099 19329 20125 20184 21099 21399 21538 22850 22852 22861 23001 23040 23375 23408 23785 23898 24404 24512 24839 25282 25963 26310 26434 26446 26465 27322 27577 27735 27826 27895 27906 27909-27910 27956 28019 28039 28062 28172 28486 28518 28521 28737 28762 29086 29428 29519 30221 30229 30261 30467 30507 30580 30851 31259 31284 31776 31790 31928 33469 34680 35104 35132 35823 36149 36298 36341 37055 37186 37758 37842 38238 39263 39596 39765 40029 40345 41424 41460 41613 42328 42375 42421 42618 42913 43009 43481 43557 44258 44499 45643 45835 45928 46138 46234 46979 47110 47357 47409 47520 47760 47876 48299 48546 48874</spatial><spectral>3.322582951404819e-19 3.852589004194616e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/466/546?format=ascii</footprint></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/466/546/table1</name><description>Parameters for the 172 {lambda} Boo stars and candidates considered in this work, with Hipparcos or Gaia parallaxes</description><column><name>HD</name><description>HD number</description><ucd>meta.id;meta.main</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">int</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
