Kinematic analysis suggests that the carbon stars in the sample are associated with NGC 6822, and estimates of its radial velocity and galactic rotation are made from a star-by-star analysis of its carbon star population. We calculate a heliocentric radial velocity for NGC 6822 of -51+/-3km/s and show that the population rotates with a mean rotation speed of 11.2+/-2.1km/s at a mean distance of 1.1kpc from the galactic centre, about a rotation axis with a position angle of 26{deg}+/-13{deg}, as projected on the sky. This is close to the rotation axis of the HI gas disc and suggests that NGC 6822 is not a polar ring galaxy, but is dynamically closer to a late-type galaxy. However, the rotation axis is not aligned with the minor axis of the AGB isodensity profiles and this remains a mystery.</description><source format="bibcode">2016MNRAS.462.3376T</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/462/3376</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/123/832">J/AJ/123/832 : C star population in NGC 6822 (Letarte+, 2002)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/540/A135">J/A+A/540/A135 : AGB population of NGC 6822 (Sibbons+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/574/A102">J/A+A/574/A102 : AGB candidates in NGC 6822 (Sibbons+, 2015)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/462/3376</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/462/3376</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/462/3376</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/462/3376</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/462/3376</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/462/3376</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/462/3376/table1 (Individual results for objects meeting the criteria (hght&gt;=0.2, -200km/s&lt;=HV&lt;=+200km/s))</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/462/3376/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/462/3376/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/462/3376/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>296.23</ra><dec>-14.86</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/7429 6/29713 29715 29724</spatial><spectral>2.367228618189496e-19 2.6706780932288093e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/462/3376?format=ascii</footprint></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/462/3376/table1</name><description>Individual results for objects meeting the criteria (hght&gt;=0.2, -200km/s&lt;=HV&lt;=+200km/s)</description><column><name>SimbadName</name><description>Simbad column added by the CDS</description><ucd>meta.id</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType" arraysize="30*">char</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
