In this paper, we briefly describe our scientific motivation, the observing tools and the results obtained from the first phase of this survey. Using the available observing facilities in India, the spectroscopic observations of a sample of 180 candidate eclipsing binary stars selected from ASAS-I&amp;II releases were carried out during 2004-2006. The strength of Halpha emission was used to characterize the level of chromospheric activity. Our spectroscopic survey reveals that out of 180 stars about 36 binary systems show excess Halpha emission. One of the objects in our sample, ASAS 081700-4243.8, displays very strong Halpha emission. Follow-up high-resolution spectroscopic observations reveal that this object is indeed very interesting and most likely a classical Be-type system with K0III companion.</description><source format="bibcode">2009MNRAS.395..593P</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/395/593</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/246">II/246 : 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/264">II/264 : ASAS Variable Stars in Southern hemisphere (Pojmanski+, 2002-05)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AcA/48/35">J/AcA/48/35 : All Sky Automated Survey variable stars (Pojmamski 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AcA/50/177">J/AcA/50/177 : All Sky Automated Survey Catalog (Pojmanski+, 2000)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/395/593</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/395/593</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/395/593</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/395/593</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/395/593</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/395/593</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/395/593/table1 (Log of medium resolution spectra collected from HCT and VBT telescopes)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/395/593/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/395/593/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/395/593/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>0.5875</ra><dec>-29.4933</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/16490 16675 16791 20511 20531 20534 20572 20599 20612 20696 20738 20766 20806 20827 20839 20846 20873 20884 20893 20935 20963 21007 21115 21217 21254 21270 21310 21379 21381 21387 21395 21444 21449 21456 21465 21485 21504 21512 21515 21533 21574 21585 21611 21626 21731 22026 22652 24623 24730 25100 25123 25236 25249 25322 26794 33589 33844 34194 34271 34278 34347 34599 34610 34617 34654 34929 34949 35001 35275 35447 35850 36236 36315 36575 36661 37751 37757 37759 37838 37861 37863 37872 38092 38188 38206 38214 38242 38322 38332 38340 38349 38412 38453 38484-38485 38506 38525 38549 38571 38663-38664 38670-38671 38700 38739 38779 38824 38837 38889 38895 39039 39080 39209 39221 39229 39237 39245 39247 39249-39251 39260 39262 39264 39279 39328 39337 39417 39437 39460 39474 39490 39506 39544 39551 39553 39574 39582 39626 39628 39636-39637 39664 39680 39747 39750 39794 39853 39944 40031 40083 40104 40109 40142 40145 40169 40237 40282 40306 40392 40507 40514 40567 40577 40605 40608 40626 40656 40776 40784 40790 40857 40886</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/395/593?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/395/593/table1</name><description>Log of medium resolution spectra collected from HCT and VBT telescopes</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
