Candidate cluster members were selected from a V versus V-I colour-magnitude diagram over 16&lt;V&lt;26 (covering masses from 0.7M_{sun}_ down to below the brown dwarf limit), finding 1685 candidates, of which we expect ~1000 to be real cluster members, taking into account contamination from the field (which is most severe at the extremes of our mass range). Searching for periodic variations in these gave 362 detections over the mass range 0.15&lt;~M/M_{sun}_&lt;~0.7. The rotation period distributions were found to show a remarkable morphology as a function of mass, with the fastest rotators bounded by P&gt;0.25d, and the slowest rotators for M&lt;~0.5M_{sun}_ bounded by a line of P~M3, with those for M&gt;~0.5M_{sun}_ following a flatter relation closer to P ~ constant. Models of the rotational evolution were investigated, finding that the evolution of the fastest rotators was well reproduced by a conventional solid body model with a mass-dependent saturation velocity, whereas core-envelope decoupling was needed to reproduce the evolution of the slowest rotators. None of our models were able to simultaneously reproduce the behaviour of both populations.</description><source format="bibcode">2007MNRAS.377..741I</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/377/741</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/312/818">J/A+A/312/818 : NGC 2516 X-ray sources (Dachs+, 1996)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/588/1009">J/ApJ/588/1009 : Chandra X-ray observations of NGC 2516 (Damiani+, 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/606/466">J/ApJ/606/466 : X-ray variability in NGC 2516 (Wolk+, 2004)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/450/993">J/A+A/450/993 : XMM survey of NGC 2516 (Pillitteri+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/456/977">J/A+A/456/977 : XMM observations of NGC 2516 stars (Marino+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/370/954">J/MNRAS/370/954 : The Monitor project: M34 (Irwin+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/375/863">J/A+A/375/863 : Photometry in NGC 2516 (Jeffries+, 2001)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/123/290">J/AJ/123/290 : UBVI CCD photometry of NGC 2516 (Sung+, 2002)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/377/741</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/377/741</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/377/741</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/377/741</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/377/741</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/377/741</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/377/741/table1 (Positions, photometry and rotation periods)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/377/741/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/377/741/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/377/741/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>119.1175833</ra><dec>-61.4629444</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/37586-37587 37592-37594</spatial><spectral>2.367228618189496e-19 3.852589004194616e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/377/741?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/377/741/table1</name><description>Positions, photometry and rotation periods</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
