A short Pleiades distance from the Hipparcos parallax predicts a number of stars in the solar neighborhood that are sub-luminous at a given photospheric abundance. We test this hypothesis using the spectroscopic abundances for a subset of stars in the Hipparcos catalog, which occupy the same region as the Pleiades in the color-magnitude diagram. We derive stellar parameters for 170 nearby G- and K-type field dwarfs in the Hipparcos catalog based on high-resolution spectra obtained using KPNO 4m echelle spectrograph. Our analysis shows that, when the Hipparcos parallaxes are adopted, most of our sample stars follow empirical color-magnitude relations. A small fraction of stars are too faint compared to main-sequence fitting relations by {Delta}M_V_&gt;~0.3mag, but the differences are marginal at a 2{sigma} level, partly due to relatively large parallax errors. On the other hand, we find that the photometric distances of stars showing signatures of youth as determined from lithium absorption line strengths and R'_HK_ chromospheric activity indices are consistent with the Hipparcos parallaxes. Our result is contradictory to a suggestion that the Pleiades distance from main-sequence fitting is significantly altered by stellar activity and/or the young age of its stars, and provides an additional supporting evidence for the long-distance scale of the Pleiades.</description><source format="bibcode">2016ApJS..222...19K</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJS/222/19</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/B/sb9">B/sb9 : SB9: 9th Catalog of Spectroscopic Binary Orbits (Pourbaix+, 2004-2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/311">I/311 : Hipparcos, the New Reduction (van Leeuwen, 2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/246">II/246 : 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/259">I/259 : The Tycho-2 Catalogue (Hog+ 2000)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/239">I/239 : The Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues (ESA 1997)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/148/30">J/AJ/148/30 : BVI photometry of 350 Pleiades stars (Kamai+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/562/A71">J/A+A/562/A71 : Abundances of solar neighborhood dwarfs (Bensby+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/551/L8">J/A+A/551/L8 : Chromospheric activity of field stars (Pace, 2013)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/757/161">J/ApJ/757/161 : Spectroscopy of 56 exoplanet host stars (Torres+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/512/A54">J/A+A/512/A54 : Teff and Fbol from Infrared Flux Method (Casagrande+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/137/4377">J/AJ/137/4377 : List of SEGUE plate pairs (Yanny+, 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/687/1264">J/ApJ/687/1264 : Age estimation for solar-type dwarfs (Mamajek+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/136/2050">J/AJ/136/2050 : SEGUE stellar parameter pipeline.
