The outer disk sample is complemented with samples of red giants from the inner Galactic disk and the solar neighborhood, analyzed using identical methods. For Galactocentric distances beyond 10kpc, we only find chemical patterns associated with the local thin disk, even for stars far above the Galactic plane. Our results show that the relative densities of the thick and thin disks are dramatically different from the solar neighborhood, and we therefore suggest that the radial scale length of the thick disk is much shorter than that of the thin disk. We make a first estimate of the thick disk scale length of L_thick_=2.0kpc, assuming L_thin_=3.8kpc for the thin disk. We suggest that radial migration may explain the lack of radial age, metallicity, and abundance gradients in the thick disk, possibly also explaining the link between the thick disk and the metal-poor bulge.</description><source format="bibcode">2011ApJ...735L..46B</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/735/L46</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/246">II/246 : 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/546/A57">J/A+A/546/A57 : Structure and formation of the Bulge (Uttenthaler+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/534/A136">J/A+A/534/A136 : Halo red giants from the SEGUE survey (Martell+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/513/A35">J/A+A/513/A35 : Abundances of Galactic red giants (Alves-Brito+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/512/A41">J/A+A/512/A41 : Abundances of microlensed stars in the Bulge (Bensby+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/465/799">J/A+A/465/799 : Abundances of Galactic Bulge red giants (Lecureur+, 2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/132/902">J/AJ/132/902 : Abundances of 54 Cepheids (Luck+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/367/1329">J/MNRAS/367/1329 : Elemental abundances for 176 stars (Reddy+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/130/1111">J/AJ/130/1111 : Elemental abundances of field red giants (Carney+, 2005)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/413/159">J/A+A/413/159 : Galactic abundance gradient.
