However, survey studies of lines of sight with greater extinction have been mostly restricted to the low-J states (lower total angular momentum) in which most molecular hydrogen is observed. This paper presents a survey of column densities for the molecular hydrogen in states of greater rotational excitation (J&gt;=2) in Galactic lines of sight with log N(H_2_)&gt;~20. This study is comprehensive through the highest excited state detectable in each line of sight. J=5 is observed in every line of sight, and we detect J=7 in four lines of sight, J=8 in one line of sight, and vibrationally excited H_2_ in two lines of sight.</description><source format="bibcode">2010ApJ...711.1236J</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/711/1236</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/VI/129">VI/129 : The FUSE Observation Log (FUSE, 1999-2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/163/282">J/ApJS/163/282 : Molecular hydrogen column densities (Wakker+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://astro.uchicago.edu/~dwelty/coldens.html : Online catalogue of ISM</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/711/1236</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/711/1236</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/711/1236</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/711/1236</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/711/1236</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/711/1236</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/711/1236/sample (Lines of sight: stellar and reddening data (tables 1 and 2 of the paper))</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/711/1236/sample?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/711/1236/sample?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/711/1236/sample?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>58.8461547</ra><dec>31.045835</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/1060 1196 14015 14643 14777 14805 15369 15406 15478 15631 15656 15745 21646 22249 22855 24513 29522 29876 30709 42408 42994</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/711/1236?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>UV</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/711/1236/sample</name><description>Lines of sight: stellar and reddening data (tables 1 and 2 of the paper)</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
