Comparing modified stellar evolution sequences with observations provides some of the most restrictive limits on axions and other hypothetical low-mass particles and on non-standard neutrino properties. In particular, a putative neutrino magnetic dipole moment {mu}_{nu}_ enhances the plasmon decay process, postpones helium ignition in low-mass stars, and therefore extends the red-giant branch (RGB) in globular clusters (GCs). The brightness of the tip of the RGB (TRGB) remains the most sensitive probe for {mu}_{nu}_ and we revisit this argument from a modern perspective. Based on a large set of archival observations, we provide high-precision photometry for the Galactic GC M5 (NGC 5904) and carefully determine its TRGB position.</description><source format="bibcode">2013A&amp;A...558A..12V</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/A+A/558/A12</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/106/1524">J/AJ/106/1524 : Proper motions in M5 (Rees, 1993)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/PAZh/21/509">J/PAZh/21/509 : Identification and coordinates in M5 (Evstigneeva,+ 1995)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/611/323">J/ApJ/611/323 : BVI photometry of M5 giant branch stars (Sandquist+, 2004)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/632/266">J/ApJ/632/266 : WFPC2 photometry of the globular cluster M5 (Layden+, 2005)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/648/1026">J/ApJ/648/1026 : HST photometry of M5 blue stragglers (Warren+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/663/267">J/ApJ/663/267 : M5 globular cluster blue straggler population (Lanzoni+, 2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/139/2289">J/AJ/139/2289 : Abundances of five red giants in M5 (Koch+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/141/62">J/AJ/141/62 : M5 chemical abundances for evolved stars (Lai+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/549/A41">J/A+A/549/A41 : Horizontal branch stars in 47 Tuc and M5 (Gratton+, 2013)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/558/A12</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/558/A12</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/558/A12</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/558/A12</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/558/A12</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/558/A12</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/A+A/558/A12/photm5 (UBVRI photometry of NGC 5904 (M5))</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/558/A12/photm5?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/558/A12/photm5?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/558/A12/photm5?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>228.9455833</ra><dec>2.5058889</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/7854 6/31410-31411</spatial><spectral>2.367228618189496e-19 6.118840631666147e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/A+A/558/A12?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/A+A/558/A12/photm5</name><description>UBVRI photometry of NGC 5904 (M5)</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
