We present VLT/VISIR mid-infrared (MIR) 8.6um imaging of 47 Tuc, the centre of attention of a number of space-based Spitzer observations and studies. The VISIR high-resolution (diffraction limited) observations allow excellent matching to existing optical Hubble Space Telescope catalogues. The optical-MIR coverage of the inner core of the cluster provide the cleanest possible blending-free sampling of the upper 3mag of the giant branch. Our diagrams show no evidence of faint giants with MIR-excess. A combined near/mid-infrared diagram additionally confirms the near absence of dusty red giants. Dusty red giants and asymptotic giant stars are confined to the 47 Tuc long-period variable population. In particular, dusty red giants are limited to the upper one N8.6um magnitude below the giant branch tip. This particular luminosity level corresponds to ~1000L_{sun}_, which was suggested in previous determinations to mark the onset of dusty mass loss. Interestingly, starting from this luminosity level we detected a gradual deviation between the colours of red giants and the theoretical isochrones.</description><source format="bibcode">2012A&amp;A...537A...2M</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/A+A/537/A2</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/85/293">J/ApJS/85/293 : HST Observations of core of 47 Tuc (de Marchi+ 1993)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+AS/106/161">J/A+AS/106/161 : (V,I) photometry in NGC 6356 and 47 Tuc (Bica+ 1994)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/372/85">J/A+A/372/85 : Detected sources at 12{mu}m in 47 Tuc (Ramdani+, 2001)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/537/A2</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/537/A2</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/537/A2</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/537/A2</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/537/A2</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/537/A2</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/A+A/537/A2/table3 (The VISIR N8.6um catalogue of the 47 Tuc central region)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/537/A2/table3?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/537/A2/table3?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/537/A2/table3?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>6.03575417</ra><dec>-72.06523056</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/33321</spatial><spectral>1.549751481824461e-20 4.75565502943315e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/A+A/537/A2?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/A+A/537/A2/table3</name><description>The VISIR N8.6um catalogue of the 47 Tuc central region</description><column><name>Seq</name><description>Sequential number</description><ucd>meta.record</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">int</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
