The presence of massive stars in the Orion belt has been considered to be responsible for the radiation-driven implosion mode of star formation in L1616. Based on the latest Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) measurements of the previously known young stellar objects (YSOs) associated with L1616, we find the distance to this cloud to be 384 +/- 5 pc. We present optical polarimetry towards L1616 that maps the plane-of-sky component of the ambient magnetic field (BPOS) geometry. Based on the proper motion of the YSOs associated with L1616, we investigate their plane-of-sky motion relative to the exciting star {epsilon} Ori. Using the Gaia EDR3 measurements of the distances and proper motions of the YSOs, we find two additional sources comoving with the known YSOs. One comoving source is HD 33056, a B9 star, and the other might be a young pre-main-sequence star not reported in previous studies. The mean direction of BPOS is found to follow the cloud structure. This could be the effect of dragging of the magnetic field lines by the impact of the ionizing radiation from {epsilon} Ori. Based on the pressure exerted on L1616, and the ages of the associated YSOs, we show that it could possibly be the main source of ionization in L1616, and thus the star formation in it.</description><source format="bibcode">2022MNRAS.513.2039S</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/513/2039</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/350">I/350 : Gaia EDR3 (Gaia Collaboration, 2020)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/655/A76">J/A+A/655/A76 : L1172/1174 R-band polarimetric results (Saha+, 2021)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/352">I/352 : Distances to 1.47 billion stars in Gaia EDR3</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/594/A116">J/A+A/594/A116 : HI4PI spectra and column density maps (HI4PI team+, 2016)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/246">II/246 : 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/349">II/349 : The Pan-STARRS release 1 (PS1) Survey - DR1 (Chambers+, 2016)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/513/2039</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/513/2039</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/513/2039</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/513/2039</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/513/2039</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/513/2039</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/513/2039/tablea2 (Foreground-corrected optical polarimetric results of 195 stars located at the background of LDN 1616)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/513/2039/tablea2?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/513/2039/tablea2?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/513/2039/tablea2?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>75.89132694</ra><dec>-3.57677111</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/5707 6/</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/513/2039?format=ascii</footprint></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/513/2039/tablea2</name><description>Foreground-corrected optical polarimetric results of 195 stars located at the background of LDN 1616</description><column><name>ID</name><description>Identifier number (Star_ID)</description><ucd>meta.id;meta.main</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">int</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
