We introduce a simple test using Galactic diffuse polarized emission that evaluates whether structures evident in RM observations are associated with distant circumgalactic medium or foreground interstellar medium. We focus on the Magellanic Leading Arm region where a clear excess of RM was previously reported. There are two gaseous objects standing out in this direction: the distant Magellanic Leading Arm and the nearby Antlia supernova remnant (SNR). We recognized narrow depolarized filaments in the 2.3 GHz S-band Polarization All Sky Survey image that overlaps with the reported RM excess. We suggest that there is a steep gradient in Faraday rotation in a foreground screen arising from the Antlia SNR. The estimated strength of the line-of-sight component of the magnetic field is B_||_~5{mu}G, assuming that the excess of RM is entirely an outcome of the magnetized supernova shell. Our analysis indicates that the overlap between the RM excess and the Magellanic Leading Arm is only a remarkable coincidence. We suggest for future RM grid studies that checking Galactic diffuse polarization maps is a convenient way to identify local Faraday screens.</description><source format="bibcode">2021MNRAS.508.3921J</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/508/3921</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/467/1776">J/MNRAS/467/1776 : Faraday rotation in Magellanic Bridge (Kaczmarek+, 2017)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/871/215">J/ApJ/871/215 : JVLA rotation measures of Smith cloud bckg sources</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/VIII/65">VIII/65 : 1.4GHz NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) (Condon+ 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/702/1230">J/ApJ/702/1230 : Rotation measure image of the sky (Taylor+, 2009)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/508/3921</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/508/3921</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/508/3921</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/508/3921</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/508/3921</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/508/3921</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/508/3921/tablea1 (Our polarized sources observed using ATCA matching our criteria)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/508/3921/tablea1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/508/3921/tablea1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/508/3921/tablea1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>170.345417</ra><dec>-43.927194</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>0/</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/508/3921?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Radio</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/508/3921/tablea1</name><description>Our polarized sources observed using ATCA matching our criteria</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
