This multifrequency, multiband information will be exploited to get a comprehensive view of star formation and active galactic nucleus activities in the high-redshift Universe from a radio perspective. In this paper, we present novel 1.4GHz mosaic observations obtained with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope. With an area coverage of 6.6deg^2^, this is the largest survey reaching an rms noise of 11{mu}Jy/beam. In this paper, we present the source catalogue (~6000 sources with flux densities S&gt;~55{mu}Jy (5{sigma}), and we discuss the 1.4GHz source counts derived from it. Our source counts provide very robust statistics in the flux range 0.1&lt;S&lt;1mJy, and are in excellent agreement with other robust determinations obtained at lower and higher flux densities. A clear excess is found with respect to the counts predicted by the semi-empirical radio sky simulations developed in the framework of the Square Kilometre Array Simulated Skies project. A preliminary analysis of the identified (and classified) sources suggests this excess is to be ascribed to star-forming galaxies, which seem to show a steeper evolution than predicted.</description><source format="bibcode">2018MNRAS.481.4548P</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/481/4548</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/481/4548</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/481/4548</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/481/4548</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/481/4548</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/481/4548</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/481/4548</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/481/4548/table1 (The radio catalogue: sample)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/481/4548/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/481/4548/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/481/4548/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>160.7038333</ra><dec>58.5242222</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/1517 1528 6/6046-6047 6076-6077 6088 6090 6120</spatial><spectral>9.276497240453405e-25 9.276497240453405e-25</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/481/4548?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Radio</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/481/4548/table1</name><description>The radio catalogue: sample</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
