To generate it, we have used a set of well-defined photometric criteria to select a large number of candidates (637) that were later observed at intermediate resolution in the infrared calcium triplet spectral range, using a long-slit spectrograph. To separate red supergiants from luminous red giants, we used a statistical method, developed in previous works and improved in the present paper. We present a method to assign probabilities of being a red supergiant to a given spectrum and use the properties of a population to generate clean samples, without contamination from lower luminosity stars. We compare our identification with a classification done using classical criteria and discuss their respective efficiencies and contaminations as identification methods. We confirm that our method is as efficient at finding supergiants as the best classical methods, but with a far lower contamination by red giants than any other method. The result is a catalogue with 197 cool supergiants, 191 of which did not appear in previous lists of red supergiants. This is the largest coherent catalogue of cool supergiants in the Galaxy.</description><source format="bibcode">2018MNRAS.475.2003D</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/475/2003</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/578/A3">J/A+A/578/A3 : New survey of supergiants in the MCs (Gonzalez-Fernandez+, 2015)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/475/2003</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/475/2003</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/475/2003</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/475/2003</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/475/2003</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/475/2003</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/475/2003/perseus (Catalogue of targets observed in the Perseus arm)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/475/2003/perseus?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/475/2003/perseus?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/475/2003/perseus?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>0.0416667</ra><dec>62.46</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>4/890 5/735 755 825 832 908 928-929 3519 3559 3565-3567 3569 3580 3861 3904-3905 3908 6/1771 1775 1963 2931 2933-2934 2937-2938 2991 2998 3003 3007 3014 3019 3024 3026-3027 3030-3031 3033 3035 3037-3039 3041-3042 3045-3047 3051 3053-3058 3061-3062 3064-3065 3067-3068 3132 3141 3143-3145 3147 3149 3152-3153 3158 3161 3165-3166 3174 3177 3179 3181 3183 3192-3193 3195 3199 3219 3221 3226-3227 3230 3250-3251 3254 3257 3259 3261-3263 3270-3271 3273 3276-3278 3280 3283 3290 3296-3297 3299 3305-3308 3311 3319-3320 3322-3323 3333-3334 3342 3360 3363 3365 3368-3370 3459 3467 3585 3587 3591 3595 3600 3602-3603 3608 3611 3614-3615 3618-3620 3623 3625-3630 3639-3640 3642 3647-3648 3652 3662 3665-3666 3668 3670 3672 3680 3682 3696 3720-3722 3726 3728 3730 3733 3742 3744-3745 3751-3753 3756 3762 14069-14071 14075 14142 14175 14189 14191 14193 14196 14198-14202 14204-14206 14210-14211 14217 14221-14223 14226 14228-14229 14233 14235 14256-14257 14259 14273-14275 14280 14282-14283 14285-14287 14289-14294 14297-14299 14301-14306 14308-14309 14311 14314-14317 14319 14324 14328 14335 15441 15443 15449 15451 15453 15479 15572 15624 15629-15631 15636-15638 15641 15643 15645 15649 15651 15653 15661-15662 15672 15674 15677 15680-15682 15687 15689 15692-15693 15700 15718</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/475/2003?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/475/2003/perseus</name><description>Catalogue of targets observed in the Perseus arm</description><column><name>SimbadName</name><description>Simbad column added by the CDS</description><ucd>meta.id</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType" arraysize="19*">char</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
