Based on our photometry and data collected from other sources, we have derived a reddening law for the cluster line-of-sight representative of the Galactic plane (-5{deg}&lt;b&lt;+5{deg}) in the window 0.4-4.8um. The power-law exponent alpha=2.13+/-0.08 is much steeper than those published a decade ago (1.6-1.8) and our index RV=2.50+/-0.04 also differs from them, but in very good agreement with recent works based on deep surveys in the inner Galaxy. As a consequence, the total extinction AKs=0.74+/-0.08 (AV=11.40+/-2.40) is substantially smaller than previous results (0.91-1.13), part of which (AKs=0.63 or AV=9.66) is from the interstellar medium. The extinction in front of the cluster spans a range of AV~8.7 with a gradient increasing from SW to NE across the cluster face, following the same general trend of warm dust distribution. The map of the J-Ks colour index also shows a trend of reddening in this direction. We measured the equivalent width of the diffuse interstellar band at 8620 A (the 'GAIA DIB') for Wd 1 cluster members and derived the relation AKs=0.612EW-0.191EW^2^. This extends the Munari et al. relation, valid for E(B-V)&lt;1, to the non-linear regime (AV&gt;4).</description><source format="bibcode">2016MNRAS.463.2653D</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/463/2653</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+AS/127/423">J/A+AS/127/423 : VI photometry of Westerlund 1 and 2 (Piatti+ 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/133/2696">J/AJ/133/2696 : BVRI light curves of Westerlund 1 stars (Bonanos, 2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/477/147">J/A+A/477/147 : X-ray sources in Westerlund 1 (Clark+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/145/46">J/AJ/145/46 : UBVIc photometry in Westerlund 1 (Lim+, 2013)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/463/2653</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/463/2653</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/463/2653</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/463/2653</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/463/2653</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/463/2653</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/463/2653/table2 (8620EW, AKs and AV for 110 stars)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/463/2653/table2?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/463/2653/table2?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/463/2653/table2?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>164.04825</ra><dec>-60.4535556</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/14692-14693 19202 28804 29116 37339 37923 37930 42199 42206-42207 42416 47760</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/463/2653?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/463/2653/table2</name><description>8620EW, AKs and AV for 110 stars</description><column><name>SimbadName</name><description>Simbad column added by the CDS</description><ucd>meta.id</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType" arraysize="43*">char</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
