An accurate line lists is computed for nitric acid (HNO3). This line list covers wavelenghts longer than 1.42 um (0-7000cm^-1^) and temperatures up to 500K. The line list is computed using a hybrid variational-perturbation theory and empirically tuned potential energy and dipole surfaces. It comprises almost 7 billion transitions involving rotations up to J=100. Comparisons with spectra from the HITRAN and PNNL databases demonstrate the accuracy of our calculations. Synthetic spectra of water - nitric acid mixtures suggest that nitric acid has features at 7.5 and 11.25um are capable of providing a clear signature for HNO3; the feature at 11.25um is particularly promising. Partition functions plus full line lists of transitions are made available in an electronic form as supplementary data to the article and at www.exomol.com.</description><source format="bibcode">2015MNRAS.452.1702P</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/452/1702</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/425/34">J/MNRAS/425/34 : ExoMol line lists for BeH, MgH and CaH (Yadin+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/434/1469">J/MNRAS/434/1469 : ExoMol line lists for SiO (Barton+, 2013)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/437/1828">J/MNRAS/437/1828 : ExoMol line list for HCN and HNC (Barber+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/440/1649">J/MNRAS/440/1649 : ExoMol line lists for CH4 (Yurchenko+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/442/1821">J/MNRAS/442/1821 : ExoMol line list for KCl (Barton+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/445/1383">J/MNRAS/445/1383 : ExoMol line list for phosphorus nitride (PN) (Yorke+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/446/2337">J/MNRAS/446/2337 : ExoMol line lists for PH3 (Sousa-Silva+, 2015)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/448/1704">J/MNRAS/448/1704 : ExoMol line lists for H2CO (Al-Refaie+, 2015)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/449/3613">J/MNRAS/449/3613 : ExoMol line lists for AlO (Patrascu+, 2015)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/452/1702</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/452/1702</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/452/1702</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/452/1702</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/452/1702</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/452/1702</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><coverage><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc"/></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/452/1702/hno3</name><description>Partition function of HNO3</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
