Focusing on the RGB stars in the magnitude range 19.8&lt;=V&lt;=22.0, we find that (i) the u-V, u-I and the V-I spreads about the RGB ridge line are significantly larger than that expected from observational errors, accurately quantified by means of extensive artificial stars experiments, (ii) the intrinsic colour spreads in u-V and u-I are larger than in V-I, and (iii) the stars lying to the blue of the RGB ridge line in u-V and u-I are significantly more concentrated towards the cluster centre than those lying to the red of that line. All the above observational facts can be interpreted in a scenario where a sizable fraction of cluster stars belong to a second generation heavily enriched in helium. Finally, we find that bright RGB stars (17.5&lt;V&lt;19.0) having [Mg/Fe]&lt;0.0 lie preferentially on the red side of the cluster RGB, while those having [Mg/Fe]&gt;0.0 lie preferentially on the blue side.</description><source format="bibcode">2013MNRAS.431.1995B</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/431/1995</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/PASP/117/37">J/PASP/117/37 : BVRI photometry in NGC 2419, Pal 4, and Pal 14 (Saha+, 2005)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/136/2259">J/AJ/136/2259 : HST photometry of stars in NGC 2419 (Sandquist+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/681/311">J/ApJ/681/311 : Blue stragglers in NGC 2419 (Dalessandro+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/141/81">J/AJ/141/81 : NGC 2419 variable star population (Di Criscienzo+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/738/186">J/ApJ/738/186 : HST and DEIMOS measurements of NGC 2419 stars (Ibata+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/740/60">J/ApJ/740/60 : Equivalent widths for NGC2419 &amp;
