As a comparison sample we use cD galaxies in clusters where they are not dominant, which we define here as non-BM I (NBMI) type clusters. We find that for 71 BM I clusters the absolute K-band luminosity of cDs depends on the cluster richness, but less strongly on the cluster velocity dispersion. Meanwhile, for 35 NBMI clusters the correlation between cD luminosity and cluster richness is weaker, and is absent between cD luminosity and velocity dispersion. In addition, we find that the luminosity of the cD galaxy hosted in BM I clusters tends to increase with the cD's peculiar velocity with respect to the cluster mean velocity. In contrast, for NBMI clusters the cD luminosity decreases with increasing peculiar velocity. Also, the X-ray luminosity of BM I clusters depends on the cluster velocity dispersion, while in NBMI clusters such a correlation is absent. These findings favour the cannibalism scenario for the formation of cD galaxies. We suggest that cDs in clusters of BM I type were formed and evolved preferentially in one and the same cluster. In contrast, cDs in NBMI type clusters were either originally formed in clusters that later merged with groups or clusters to form the current cluster, or are now in the process of merging.</description><source format="bibcode">2012MNRAS.427.2047T</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/427/2047</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/137/4795">J/AJ/137/4795 : Dynamical state of brightest cluster galaxies (Coziol+, 2009)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/427/2047</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/427/2047</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/427/2047</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/427/2047</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/427/2047</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/427/2047</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/427/2047/table1 (Data on the 71 clusters of type BM I, 22 of intermediate type, and 35 of type NBMI)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/427/2047/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/427/2047/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/427/2047/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>7.0825</ra><dec>13.916667</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/206-207 675 1006 5005 5017 5092 5536 5585 5603 5606 5715 6022 6071 6609 7513 7517 8220 8520 8648 8663 8788 8832 8919 9040 9047-9048 9073 9250 9317 9506 9776 10312 10318 10406 10483 10823 11126 11442-11443 11809 11846 12118 16434 16492 16713 16855 16953 17080 17141 17150 17237 17300 17801 17841 18016 18168 18176 18324 18365 18410 18566 18585 19204 19462 19517 19608 19752 19993 20021 20072 20083 20361 20481 21766 23451 24622 24943 25135 25682 25897 26087 26109 26135 26185 26208 26329 26432 26825 26903 27238 27261 27472 27671 28005 28205 28430 31284 31396 31398 33624 33657 33756 34229 34442-34443 35091 35228 35266 35455 35666 36070 36453 36661 39137 40809 43835 43837-43838 43849 43931 43977 46441 46889 48447 48483</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/427/2047?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/427/2047/table1</name><description>Data on the 71 clusters of type BM I, 22 of intermediate type, and 35 of type NBMI</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
