We find correlations in the case of close binaries which suggest that tidal synchronization is effective for binaries whose separation exceeds the stellar radius by more than an order of magnitude, in line with the theoretical predictions of Goldreich &amp; Nicholson (1989ApJ...342.1079G) and the previous observational analysis of Giuricin et al. (1984A&amp;A...135..393G). In the case of wide binaries, the vsin(i) values are not well correlated, which requires that the magnitude of the spin speeds is not tightly correlated. Under this assumption, we then find that the data provide no significant constraints on the degree of alignment of spin axes. The data are therefore compatible with scenarios (such as disc fragmentation or capture) which differ widely in the expected degree of spin alignment.</description><source format="bibcode">2009MNRAS.392..448H</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/392/448</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/III/135">III/135 : Henry Draper Catalogue and Extension (Cannon+ 1918-1924; ADC 1989)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/392/448</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/392/448</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/392/448</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/392/448</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/392/448</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/392/448</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/392/448/tablea1 (vsin(i) measurements for the components of the early-type binaries in our sample)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/392/448/tablea1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/392/448/tablea1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/392/448/tablea1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>330.0185422</ra><dec>44.5521489</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/837 1040 1212 1293 1429 1555 1633 1917 2361 2664 2675 2771 3132 3279 3518 5077 5762 6068 6892 7117 7338 8354 9121 9767 11109 11157 11427 12264 12658 13559 13935 14263 14290 14381 14431 14862 14908 15261 15301 15539 15662 15713 15760 16119 17767 18190 19105 19827 21197 21438-21439 22201 22822 22837 22896 22994 23010 23557 23599 24278 24415 24472 24488 28394 28711 28891-28892 28896 28913 29809 30269 30358 30419 30492 30629 31169 31507 31790 31838 31863 31977 32217 32542 32613 34823 35226 36018 36184 36240 37212 37827 37897 37923 38016 38440 39254 39671 39877 39916 40904 41918 42071 42428 43843 44119 44305 44378 44643 44785 44844 47353 47706 48749</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/392/448?format=ascii</footprint></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/392/448/tablea1</name><description>vsin(i) measurements for the components of the early-type binaries in our sample</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
