Exploiting the K-band excess (KX) of all quasars with respect to foreground stars, including quasars experiencing dust reddening and objects with non-standard spectral energy distributions (SEDs), a list of targets suitable for spectroscopic follow-up observations with the AAOmega multi-object spectrograph is constructed, resulting in more than 200 confirmed active galactic nuclei (AGN). KX selection successfully identifies as quasar candidates objects that are excluded from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasar selection algorithm due to their colours being consistent with the stellar locus in optical colour space (with the space density of the excluded objects agreeing well with results from existing completeness analyses). Nearly half of the KX-selected quasars with K&lt;=17.0 at z&lt;3 are too faint in the i band to have been targeted by the SDSS quasar selection algorithm, revealing a large population of quasars with red i-K colours.</description><source format="bibcode">2008MNRAS.386.1605M</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/386/1605</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/VII/149">VII/149 : Positions of high-redshift luminous quasars (Schneider+ 1992)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/353/77">J/A+A/353/77 : Luminous quasars variability + polarization (Teerikorpi+ 2000)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/372/425">J/MNRAS/372/425 : 2dF-SDSS Luminous Red Galaxy Survey, 2SLAQ (Cannon+, 2006)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/386/1605</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/386/1605</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/386/1605</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/386/1605</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/386/1605</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/386/1605</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/386/1605/table5 (Catalogue of KX-selected, spectroscopically observed objects (Version of Sept 2007))</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/386/1605/table5?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/386/1605/table5?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/386/1605/table5?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>184.40582</ra><dec>-0.2033919</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/6501 6506 6550 6553 6565 7868 6/25919 25960 25962-25963 26019 26028 26048 26175 26191 26195 26198 26204 26211 26217 26220 26224 26255 26266 26276-26277 26279 26288 31450-31452 31454 31461 31463 31476</spatial><spectral>2.040811542443644e-19 6.090060298487514e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/386/1605?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/386/1605/table5</name><description>Catalogue of KX-selected, spectroscopically observed objects (Version of Sept 2007)</description><column><name>UCl</name><description>UKIDSS Class (1)</description><ucd>src.class.starGalaxy</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">int</dataType></column><column><name>ULAS</name><description>ULAS designation (JHHMMSS.ss+DDMMSS.s)</description><ucd>meta.id;meta.main</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType" arraysize="19*">char</dataType></column><column><name>EDR</name><description>[0-9] UKIDSS-EDR identification number</description><ucd>meta.id</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType" arraysize="12*">char</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
