The matched sample contains 104 quasars, and the Sloan spectra are used to estimate black hole masses and bolometric luminosities. Variability amplitudes are measured from the QUEST1 light curves. We find that black hole mass correlates with several measures of the variability amplitude at the 99 per cent significance level or better. The correlation does not appear to be caused by obvious selection effects inherent to flux-limited quasar samples, host galaxy contamination or other well-known correlations between quasar variability and luminosity/redshift. We evaluate variability as a function of rest-frame time lag using structure functions and find further support for the variability-black hole mass correlation.</description><source format="bibcode">2007MNRAS.375..989W</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/375/989</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/266">II/266 : QUEST1 200k light curve catalog (Rengstorf+, 2004)</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://www.sdss.org : SDSS Home Page</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/375/989</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/375/989</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/375/989</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/375/989</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/375/989</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/375/989</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/375/989/table1 (The total sample of 104 quasars with variability measurements and AGN parameters)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/375/989/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/375/989/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/375/989/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>150.2938333</ra><dec>-0.6803056</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/6740 6/25591 25852 25854-25855 25915 25917-25918 25931 25955 25961-25962 25991 25998 26000-26002 26017-26018 26020 26022 26024 26167 26175 26187-26188 26190-26191 26196-26198 26202 26209-26210 26246-26247 26251-26252 26256 26272-26274 26277-26278 26280 26878-26879 26943 26955 26958 26964 26969 26976 26980-26981 26986 27021 27023 27026 27032 27034 27043-27044 27048 27050 27220 27225-27226 27236 31367 31371-31372 31384 31397-31398 45052 45054-45055</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/375/989?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/375/989/table1</name><description>The total sample of 104 quasars with variability measurements and AGN parameters</description><column><name>z</name><description>Redshift</description><ucd>src.redshift</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">float</dataType></column><column><name>SDSS</name><description>SDSS ID number</description><ucd>meta.id;meta.main</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType" arraysize="18*">char</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
