Candidate cluster members were selected from a V versus VI colour-magnitude diagram over 14<V<24 (0.12<M/M_{sun}_<1.0), finding 714 candidates, of which we expect ~400 to be real cluster members (taking into account contamination from the field). The mass function was computed, and found to be consistent with a lognormal distribution in dN/dlogM. Searching for periodic variable objects in the candidate members gave 105 detections over the mass range 0.25<M/M_{sun}_<1.0. The distribution of rotation periods for 0.4<M/M_{sun}_<1.0 was found to peak at ~7d, with a tail of fast rotators down to periods of ~0.8d. For 0.25<M/M_{sun}_<0.4 we found a peak at short periods, with a lack of slow rotators (e.g. P>5d), consistent with the work of other authors at very low masses. Our results are interpreted in the context of previous work, finding that we reproduce the same general features in the rotational period distributions. A number of rapid rotators were found with velocities ~ a factor of 2 lower than in the Pleiades, consistent with models of angular momentum evolution assuming solid body rotation without needing to invoke core-envelope decoupling.
2006MNRAS.370..954I<referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/370/954</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/111/1193">J/AJ/111/1193 : Proper motion in M34 (Jones+ 1996)</relatedResource></relationship>
<rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/370/954</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/370/954</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/370/954</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/370/954</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/370/954</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/370/954</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch">
Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/370/954/tablea1 (Summary of the properties of our 105 M34 rotation candidates)
<interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/370/954/tablea1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/370/954/tablea1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/370/954/tablea1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>40.737</ra><dec>42.5894444</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/2395 2417</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/370/954?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema>

Summary of the properties of our 105 M34 rotation candidates
<column>

Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
