We have developed such a classification procedure for about 1700 stars from the variable star catalogue of the All-Sky Automated Survey 1-2 (ASAS 1-2) by selecting the periodic stars and by applying an unsupervised Bayesian classifier using parameters obtained through a Fourier decomposition of the light curve. For irregular light curves we used the period and moments of the magnitude distribution for the classification. In the case of ASAS 1-2, 83 per cent of variable objects are red giants. A general relation between the period and amplitude is found for a large fraction of those stars. The selection led to 302 periodic and 1429 semiperiodic stars, which are classified in six major groups: eclipsing binaries, 'sinusoidal curves', Cepheids, small amplitude red variables, SR and Mira stars. The type classification error level is estimated to be about 7 per cent.</description><source format="bibcode">2005MNRAS.358...30E</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/358/30</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/264">II/264 : ASAS Variable Stars in Southern hemisphere (Pojmanski+, 2002-05)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AcA/48/35">J/AcA/48/35 : All Sky Automated Survey variable stars (Pojmamski 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AcA/50/177">J/AcA/50/177 : All Sky Automated Survey Catalog (Pojmanski+, 2000)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/358/30</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/358/30</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/358/30</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/358/30</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/358/30</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/358/30</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/358/30/table1 (Results of the classification)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/358/30/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/358/30/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/358/30/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>14.495833</ra><dec>0.578333</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/5530 7228 8280 9474-9475 9478 6/17816 18028 18549 18568 18801 18861 19005 19092 19204 21501 21503 21845 21900-21902 21912-21914 22071 22076-22077 22079 22112 22114-22115 22124 22208 22869 22925 22927 22936 22949 22962 23146 23552 25944 26257 26271 26965 27233 27238 28687 28698 28710 28716-28717 28720-28721 28890 28916 28958 28994 29000-29001 29229-29230 29328 30040 30044 30065 30115 30121-30123 30125 30270 30356-30357 30359 31064-31065 31139 31144 31148 31381 32838 32844 32848 33053-33054 33073 33076-33077 33095-33097 33099-33102 33104 36863 36881 37215 37890-37891 37894-37895 37906-37907 37910-37911 37916 37918 37937 38045 38047 38082 38088 40993 40995 41000 41647 41651 41654 41657-41659 41662 43013 43015 43024 43026 43847 43855 43878 43888 44848 47724 47737 48775 48787 48794 48903 48905</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/358/30?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/358/30/table1</name><description>Results of the classification</description><column><name>Per</name><description>Period</description><unit>d</unit><ucd>time.period</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">double</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
