Like the original BCS and employing an identical selection procedure, the BCS extension is compiled from ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) data in the northern hemisphere ({delta}&gt;=0{deg}) and at high Galactic latitudes (|b|&gt;=20{deg}). It comprises 99 X-ray-selected clusters of galaxies with measured redshifts z&lt;=0.3 (as well as eight more at z&gt;0.3) and total fluxes between 2.8x10^-12^ and 4.4x10^-12^erg/cm^2^/s in the 0.1-2.4keV band (the latter value being the flux limit of the original BCS). The extension can be combined with the main sample published in 1998 to form the homogeneously selected extended BCS (eBCS), the largest and statistically best understood cluster sample to emerge from the RASS to date. The nominal completeness of the combined sample (defined with respect to a power-law fit to the bright end of the BCS logN-logS distribution) is relatively low at 75per cent (compared with 90per cent for the high-flux sample of Paper I). However, just as for the original BCS, this incompleteness can be accurately quantified, and thus statistically corrected for, as a function of X-ray luminosity and redshift. In addition to its importance for improved statistical studies of the properties of clusters in the local Universe, the low-flux extension of the BCS is also intended to serve as a finding list for X-ray-bright clusters in the northern hemisphere which we hope will prove useful in the preparation of cluster observations with the next generation of X-ray telescopes such as Chandra and XMM-Newton.</description><source format="bibcode">2000MNRAS.318..333E</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/MNRAS/318/333</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/IX/10">IX/10 : ROSAT All-Sky Survey Bright Source Catalogue (Voges+ 1999)</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/~ebeling/clusters/BCS.html :</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/318/333</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/318/333</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/MNRAS/318/333</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/318/333</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/318/333</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/MNRAS/318/333</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/MNRAS/318/333/table1 (The low-flux extension to the ROSAT Brightest Cluster Sample)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/318/333/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/318/333/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/MNRAS/318/333/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>0.954</ra><dec>2.068</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><facility>ROSAT</facility><coverage><spatial>6/663 687 2164 2169 2231 2729 4180 4203 4341 4402 4407 4748 4990 5016 5161 5227 5250 5370 5373 5524 5715 5743 6002 6092 6441 6741 7020 7247 7579 7639 7804 7852 7887 8066 8515 8608 8663 8832 8926 8970 9037 9072 9118 9504 9593 9613 9664 9672 9750 9812 9943 10151 10154 10371 10430 10594 10822 11080 11195 11253 11264 11443 11537 11672 11816 11901 11920 11974 12118 12504 12560 13314 13362 15045 15302 16032 16075 18032 18800 18894 18923 19321 19462 19528 19566 19625 19652 19656 19949 20016 20082 20292 21971 22007 22955 23399 26568 27060 27075 28022 28153 28234 28294 28429 28453 31180 32448</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/MNRAS/318/333?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>X-ray</waveband><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/MNRAS/318/333/table1</name><description>The low-flux extension to the ROSAT Brightest Cluster Sample</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
