Here, we study a sample of more than 2000 elliptical galaxies in which dust emission has been detected. This is the largest sample of such galaxies ever analyzed. We infer the timescale for removal of dust in these galaxies and investigate its dependence on physical and environmental properties. We obtain a dust-removal timescale in elliptical galaxies of tau=2.26+/-0.18Gyr, corresponding to a half-life time of 1.57+/-0.12Gyr. This timescale does not depend on environment, stellar mass, or redshift. We observe a departure of dusty elliptical galaxies from the relation between star formation rate and dust mass. This is caused by the star formation rates declining faster than the dust masses and indicates that there exists an internal mechanism that affects star formation but leaves the ISM intact. Morphological quenching together with ionization or outflows caused by older stellar populations (Type Ia supernovae or planetary nebulae) is consistent with these observations.</description><source format="bibcode">2023ApJ...953...27L</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/953/27</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/413/971">J/MNRAS/413/971 : Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) DR1 (Driver+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/452/2087">J/MNRAS/452/2087 : Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) DR2 (Liske+, 2015)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/474/3875">J/MNRAS/474/3875 : Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) DR3 (Baldry+, 2018)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/953/27</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/953/27</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/953/27</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/953/27</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/953/27</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/953/27</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/953/27/dusty (Main catalogue containing all parameters examined in the paper)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/953/27/dusty?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/953/27/dusty?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/953/27/dusty?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>174.62678978</ra><dec>0.73196264</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>4/1365 1622 1642 5/1024-1026 5459 5468-5469 6397 6399 6479 6483-6484 6486-6487 6492 6501 6512 6740-6742 6748 6825-6827 6830 6/4112 4128 8200 8202 8224 25583 25593-25595 25909 25911 25915 25925 25927 25929 25931 25940 25942-25943 25972-25974 25976-25978 25980 26001 26013 26015 26052-26054 26056-26057 26060 26064 26248 26250-26252 26254-26255 26266 26288 26290-26291 26296 26947 26949-26951 26953 26956-26957 26959 26972-26974 26996 27275 27278-27279 27290 27297-27299 27312 27314-27315 27324 27648-27650 27652 27656 40951 40955 40957-40959</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/953/27?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/953/27/dusty</name><description>Main catalogue containing all parameters examined in the paper</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
