Early shallow color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) indicated that it possibly hosted an intermediate-age or even young stellar population, which is unusual for a galaxy of this mass. In this paper, we present new Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys CMDs reaching the oldest main-sequence turnoff with excellent photometric precision and derive a precise star formation history (SFH) for this galaxy through CMD fitting. This SFH shows that the bulk of the stellar mass in EriII formed in an extremely short star formation burst at the earliest possible time. The derived star formation rate profile has a width at half maximum of 500Myr and reaches a value compatible with null star formation 13Gyr ago. However, tests with mock stellar populations and with the CMD of the globular cluster M92 indicate that the star formation period could be shorter than 100Myr. From the quantitative determination of the amount of mass turned into stars in this early star formation burst (~2x10^5^M_{sun}_) we infer the number of supernova (SN) events and the corresponding energy injected into the interstellar medium. For reasonable estimates of the Eri II virial mass and values of the coupling efficiency of the SN energy, we conclude that Eri II could be quenched by SN feedback alone, thus casting doubts on the need to invoke cosmic reionization as the preferred explanation for the early quenching of old UFD galaxies.</description><source format="bibcode">2021ApJ...909..192G</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/909/192</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/B/hst">B/hst : HST Archived Exposures Catalog (STScI, 2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/756/108">J/ApJ/756/108 : HST VI phot. of variable stars in Leo T (Clementini+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/812/158">J/ApJ/812/158 : Leo P RR Lyrae candidates &amp; cumulative SFH (McQuinn+, 2015)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/635/A107">J/A+A/635/A107 : Spectroscopy of the Eri 2 cluster (Zoutendijk+, 2020)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/479/4136">J/MNRAS/479/4136 : Morphological properties of galaxies (Karachentsev+, 2018)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/908/18">J/ApJ/908/18 : HST stellar photometry of Eridanus II (Simon+, 2021)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/909/192</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/909/192</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/909/192</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/909/192</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/909/192</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/909/192</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/909/192/fig2 (ACS/WFC F475W/F606W/F814W photometry of Eridanus II)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/909/192/fig2?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/909/192/fig2?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/909/192/fig2?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>56.12303194</ra><dec>-43.51718889</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/34366</spatial><spectral>2.3657755224268815e-19 4.369938604086476e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/909/192?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/909/192/fig2</name><description>ACS/WFC F475W/F606W/F814W photometry of Eridanus II</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
