The two classes of objects are confused in low-resolution spectroscopy. However, colors and proper motions indicate that sdA stars are cooler and more luminous, and thus larger in radius, than published ELM WDs. We demonstrate that surface gravities derived from pure hydrogen models suffer a systematic ~1dex error for sdA stars, likely explained by metal line blanketing below 9000K. A detailed study of five eclipsing binaries with radial velocity orbital solutions and infrared excess establishes that these sdA stars are metal-poor ~1.2M_{sun}_ main sequence stars with ~0.8M_{sun}_ companions. While WDs must exist at sdA temperatures, only ~1% of a magnitude-limited sdA sample should be ELM WDs. We conclude that the majority of sdA stars are metal-poor A-F type stars in the halo, and that recently discovered pulsating ELM WD-like stars with no obvious radial velocity variations may be SX Phe variables, not pulsating WDs.</description><source format="bibcode">2017ApJ...839...23B</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/839/23</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/VII/233">VII/233 : The 2MASS Extended sources (IPAC/UMass, 2003-2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/319">II/319 : UKIDSS-DR9 LAS, GCS and DXS Surveys (Lawrence+ 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/99/135">J/ApJS/99/135 : Rotation and Spectral Peculiarities (Abt+ 1995)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/339/123">J/A+A/339/123 : PSR J1012+5307 evolutionary tracks (Driebe+ 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/PASP/110/863">J/PASP/110/863 : A Stellar Spectral Flux Library: 1150 - 25000 A (Pickles 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/573/359">J/ApJ/573/359 : Rotational velocities of B stars from BSC (Abt+, 2002)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/131/582">J/AJ/131/582 : Cool white dwarfs in the SDSS (Kilic+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/136/2070">J/AJ/136/2070 : SEGUE stellar parameter pipeline.
