Here, we update and extend the relation originally presented by Bastien et al. (2013Natur.500..427B) after calibrating F_8_ against a more robust set of asteroseismically derived surface gravities. We describe in detail how we extract the F_8_ signal from the light curves, including how we treat phenomena, such as exoplanet transits and shot noise, that adversely affect the measurement of F_8_. We examine the limitations of the technique, and, as a result, we now provide an updated treatment of the F_8_-based log g error. We briefly highlight further applications of the technique, such as astrodensity profiling or its use in other types of stars with convective outer layers. We discuss potential uses in current and upcoming space-based photometric missions. Finally, we supply F_8_-based log g values, and their uncertainties, for 27628 Kepler stars not identified as hosts of transiting planets, with 4500K&lt;T_eff_&lt;7150K, 2.5&lt;logg&lt;4.6, K_p_&lt;=13.5, and overall photometric amplitudes &lt;10 parts per thousand.</description><source format="bibcode">2016ApJ...818...43B</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/818/43</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/V/133">V/133 : Kepler Input Catalog (Kepler Mission Team, 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/211/24">J/ApJS/211/24 : Rotation periods of Kepler MS stars (McQuillan+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/211/2">J/ApJS/211/2 : Revised properties of Q1-16 Kepler targets (Huber+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/210/20">J/ApJS/210/20 : Small Kepler planets radial velocities (Marcy+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/210/19">J/ApJS/210/19 : Kepler planetary candidates.
