The observed sample contains about 7000 stars, almost 2000 of them with a polarization signal-to-noise ratio larger than 5. These data cover almost the entire main molecular cloud and also sample two diffuse infrared patches in the neighborhood of Lupus I. The large-scale pattern of the plane-of-sky projection of the magnetic field is perpendicular to the main axis of Lupus I, but parallel to the two diffuse infrared patches. A detailed analysis of our polarization data combined with the Herschel/SPIRE 350{mu}m dust emission map shows that the principal filament of Lupus I is constituted by three main clumps that are acted on by magnetic fields that have different large-scale structural properties. These differences may be the reason for the observed distribution of pre- and protostellar objects along the molecular cloud and the cloud's apparent evolutionary stage. On the other hand, assuming that the magnetic field is composed of large-scale and turbulent components, we find that the latter is rather similar in all three clumps. The estimated plane-of-sky component of the large-scale magnetic field ranges from about 70 to 200{mu}G in these clumps. The intensity increases toward the Galactic plane. The mass-to-magnetic flux ratio is much smaller than unity, implying that Lupus I is magnetically supported on large scales.</description><source format="bibcode">2015ApJ...807....5F</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/807/5</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/VI/139">VI/139 : Herschel Observation Log (Herschel Science Centre, 2013)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/246">II/246 : 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/569/L1">J/A+A/569/L1 : Polarization hole in a starless core (Alves+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/PASJ/63/S1">J/PASJ/63/S1 : Atlas of dark clouds based on 2MASS (Dobashi+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/177/551">J/ApJS/177/551 : Spitzer c2d survey of Lupus dark clouds (Merin+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/603/584">J/ApJ/603/584 : Polarimetry toward Musca dark cloud (Pereyra+, 2004)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/331/474">J/MNRAS/331/474 : ubvy{beta} photometry in the Lupus dark cloud (Franco, 2002)</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://www.herschel.fr/cea/gouldbelt/en/ : Gould Belt survey web page</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://darkclouds.u-gakugei.ac.jp/ : Dark clouds extinction maps</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/807/5</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/807/5</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/807/5</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/807/5</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/807/5</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/807/5</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/807/5/table1 (Polarimetric data obtained for Lupus I)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/807/5/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/807/5/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/807/5/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>234.0574583</ra><dec>-33.0423333</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/10684 6/42714 42744 42746</spatial><spectral>1.1166583743361574e-19 1.7003137259100215e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/807/5?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/807/5/table1</name><description>Polarimetric data obtained for Lupus I</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
