In the central molecular zone the star formation rate calculated from the number of YSOs with 24{mu}m emission is up to an order of magnitude higher than the value estimated from methods based on diffuse emission (such as free-free emission). Whether this effect is real or whether it indicates problems with either or both star formation rate measures is not currently known. In this paper, we investigate whether estimates based on YSOs could be heavily contaminated by more evolved objects such as main-sequence stars. We present radiative transfer models of YSOs and of main-sequence stars in a constant ambient medium which show that the main-sequence objects can indeed mimic YSOs at 24{mu}m. However, we show that in some cases the main-sequence models can be marginally resolved at 24{mu}m, whereas the YSO models are always unresolved. Based on the fraction of resolved MIPS 24{mu}m sources in the sample of YSOs previously used to compute the star formation rate, we estimate the fraction of misclassified "YSOs" to be at least 63%, which suggests that the star formation rate previously determined from YSOs is likely to be at least a factor of three too high.</description><source format="bibcode">2015ApJ...799...53K</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/799/53</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/316">II/316 : UKIDSS-DR6 Galactic Plane Survey (Lucas+ 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/295">II/295 : Spitzer IRAC survey of the galactic center (Ramirez+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/736/133">J/ApJ/736/133 : Spitzer-IRS study of YSOs in galactic center (An+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/181/321">J/ApJS/181/321 : Properties of Spitzer c2d dark clouds (Evans+, 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/181/227">J/ApJS/181/227 : Catalog of 24um sources toward Galactic Center (Hinz+, 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/702/178">J/ApJ/702/178 : YSOs in the central 400pc of the Galaxy (Yusef-Zadeh+, 2009)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/799/53</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/799/53</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/799/53</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/799/53</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/799/53</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/799/53</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><coverage><spectral>6.772611666688002e-21 1.000830682546041e-20</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc"/><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/799/53/table3</name><description>Parameters and measurements from our models</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
