We detect emission from few million degree gas on ~4/5 of our sight lines. The temperature is fairly uniform (median = 2.22x10^6^K, interquartile range = 0.63x10^6^K), while the emission measure and intrinsic 0.5-2.0keV surface brightness vary by over an order of magnitude (~(0.4-7)x10^-3^cm^-6^pc and ~(0.5-7)x10^-12^erg/cm2/s deg^-2^, respectively, with median detections of 1.9x10^-3^cm^-6^pc and 1.5x10^-12^erg/cm2/s deg^-2^, respectively). The high-latitude sky contains a patchy distribution of few million degree gas. This gas exhibits a general increase in emission measure toward the inner Galaxy in the southern Galactic hemisphere. However, there is no tendency for our observed emission measures to decrease with increasing Galactic latitude, contrary to what is expected for a disk-like halo morphology. The measured temperatures, brightnesses, and spatial distributions of the gas can be used to place constraints on models for the dominant heating sources of the halo. We provide some discussion of such heating sources, but defer comparisons between the observations and detailed models to a later paper.</description><source format="bibcode">2013ApJ...773...92H</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/773/92</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/B/xmm">B/xmm : XMM-Newton Observation Log (XMM-Newton Science Operation Center, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/IX/41">IX/41 : XMM-Newton Serendipitous Source Catalogue 2XMMi-DR3 (XMM-SSC, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/VIII/76">VIII/76 : Leiden/Argentine/Bonn (LAB) Survey of Galactic HI (Kalberla+ 2005)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/VI/62">VI/62 : Photoelectric absorption cross-sections (Balucinska-Church+, 1992)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/202/14">J/ApJS/202/14 : Diffuse OVII and OVIII emission from XMM (II) (Henley+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/187/388">J/ApJS/187/388 : A XMM-Newton survey of the SXRB (I) (Henley+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/493/339">J/A+A/493/339 : XMM-Newton serendipitous Survey.
