(2013MNRAS.430.1801M) have shown the unprecedented transition of the previously identified luminous blue variable (LBV) and supernova (SN) impostor SN 2009ip to a real Type IIn SN explosion. We present ~100 optical R- and I-band photometric measurements of SN 2009ip obtained between UT 2012 September 23.6 and October 9.6, using 0.3-0.4m aperture telescopes from the Coral Towers Observatory in Cairns, Australia. The light curves show well-defined phases, including very rapid brightening early on (0.5mag in 6hr observed during the night of September 24), a transition to a much slower rise between September 25 and September 28, and a plateau/peak around October 7. These changes are coincident with the reported spectroscopic changes that most likely mark the start of a strong interaction between the fast SN ejecta and a dense circumstellar medium formed during the LBV eruptions observed in recent years. In the 16-day observing period, SN 2009ip brightened by 3.7mag from I=17.4mag on September 23.6 (M_I_=~-14.2) to I=13.7mag (M_I_=~-17.9) on October 9.6, radiating ~3x10^49^erg in the optical wavelength range. As of 2012 October 9.6, SN 2009ip is more luminous than most Type IIP SN and comparable to other Type IIn SN.</description><source format="bibcode">2013ApJ...763L..27P</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/763/L27</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/B/sn">B/sn : Asiago Supernova Catalogue (Barbon et al., 1999-)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/555/A10">J/A+A/555/A10 : Light curves of 5 type IIn supernovae (Taddia+, 2013)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/144/131">J/AJ/144/131 : Photometry and spectroscopy of SN 2010jl (Zhang+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/756/173">J/ApJ/756/173 : Phot. of type IIn SNe 2005ip &amp; 2006jd (Stritzinger+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/729/143">J/ApJ/729/143 : Photometry of type IIn SN 2008am (Chatzopoulos+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/412/1441">J/MNRAS/412/1441 : SNe luminosity functions (Li+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/128/1761">J/AJ/128/1761 : HATNET variability survey (Hartman+, 2004)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/763/L27</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/763/L27</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/763/L27</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/763/L27</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/763/L27</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/763/L27</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><coverage><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc"/><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/763/L27/table1</name><description>Light curve of SN 2009ip</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
