The new sample more than doubles the number of known members with precise velocities that lie between 25' and 45' from the cluster center. Combining this sample with earlier work confirms that the line-of-sight velocity dispersion of {omega} Cen remains approximately constant at ~6.5km/s in the outer parts of the cluster, which contain only a small fraction of the total cluster stellar mass. It is argued that the approximately constant velocity dispersion in the outer regions is most likely a consequence of external influences, such as the tidal shock heating that occurs each time {omega} Cen crosses the Galactic plane. There is therefore no requirement to invoke dark matter or non-standard gravitational theories.</description><source format="bibcode">2012ApJ...751....6D</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/751/6</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/731/64">J/ApJ/731/64 : Spectroscopy of 300 RGBs in {omega} Cen (Marino+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/396/2183">J/MNRAS/396/2183 : RVs of red giants in {omega} Cen (Sollima+ 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/399/195">J/MNRAS/399/195 : Blue &amp; red spectra of {omega} Cen HB stars (Van Loon+, 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/698/2048">J/ApJ/698/2048 : Abundances of red giants in {omega} Cen (Johnson+, 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/136/506">J/AJ/136/506 : RVs of {omega} Centauri members (Da Costa+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/681/1505">J/ApJ/681/1505 : Abundances of red giants in {omega} Cen (Johnson+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/661/L155">J/ApJ/661/L155 : Radial velocities RGB stars in omega Cen (Pancino+, 2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/445/503">J/A+A/445/503 : Radial velocities in Omega Cen (NGC5139) (Reijns+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/647/1075">J/ApJ/647/1075 : Age-metallicity relation of {omega} Cen (Stanford+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/114/1087">J/AJ/114/1087 : Omega Cen radial velocities (Mayor+ 1997)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/751/6</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/751/6</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/751/6</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/751/6</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/751/6</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/751/6</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/751/6/stars (Velocities measured)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/751/6/stars?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/751/6/stars?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/751/6/stars?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>201.27725</ra><dec>-47.2948889</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/43225 43226 43227 43228 43230 43249</spatial><spectral>3.322582951404819e-19 3.852589004194616e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/751/6?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/751/6/stars</name><description>Velocities measured</description><column><name>e_HRV</name><description>[0.1/3] The 1{sigma} error in HRV</description><unit>km/s</unit><ucd>stat.error</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">float</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
