Our sample includes &gt;200 YSOs with masses &gt;3M_{sun}_ that will become B-type stars on the main sequence. Extrapolating over the stellar initial mass function (IMF), we find that M17 SWex contains &gt;1.3x10^4^ young stars, representing a proto-OB association. The YSO mass function is significantly steeper than the Salpeter IMF, and early O stars are conspicuously absent from M17 SWex. Assuming M17 SWex will form an OB association with a Salpeter IMF, these results reveal the combined effects of (1) more rapid circumstellar disk evolution in more massive YSOs and (2) delayed onset of massive star formation.</description><source format="bibcode">2010ApJ...714L.285P</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/714/L285</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/293">II/293 : GLIMPSE Source Catalog (I + II + 3D) (IPAC 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/V/114">V/114 : MSX6C Infrared Point Source Catalog (Egan+ 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/246">II/246 : 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/696/1278">J/ApJ/696/1278 : The extended star-forming environment of M17 (Povich+, 2009)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/672/398">J/ApJ/672/398 : JHK' photometry of M17 silhouette object (Ito+, 2008)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJS/169/353">J/ApJS/169/353 : Chandra sources in M17 (Broos+, 2007)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/644/990">J/ApJ/644/990 : Sub-mm clumps at 450 and 850{mu}m in M17 (Reid+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://irsa.ipac.caltech.edu/data/SPITZER/MIPSGAL/ : MIPSGAL data online</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/714/L285</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/714/L285</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/714/L285</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/714/L285</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/714/L285</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/714/L285</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/714/L285/table1 (Basic properties of candidate YSOs)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/714/L285/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/714/L285/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/714/L285/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>274.30292194</ra><dec>-17.28969111</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/29112 29113 29114</spatial><spectral>6.772611666688002e-21 1.000830682546041e-20</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/714/L285?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/714/L285/table1</name><description>Basic properties of candidate YSOs</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
