We employ a novel technique that does not require spectroscopic data for identifying SNe Ia (although spectroscopic measurements of redshifts are used for over half the sample); instead, we employ a Bayesian approach using only photometric data to calculate the probability that an object is an SN Ia. This Bayesian technique can easily be modified to incorporate improved priors on SN properties, and it is well-suited for future high-statistics SN searches in which spectroscopic follow-up of all candidates will be impractical. Here the method is validated on both ground- and space-based SN data having some spectroscopic follow-up. We combine our volumetric rate measurements with low-redshift SN data and fit to a number of possible models for the evolution of the SN Ia rate as a function of redshift. The data do not distinguish between a flat rate at redshift &gt;0.5 and a previously proposed model, in which the Type Ia rate peaks at redshift ~1 due to a significant delay from star formation to the SN explosion. Except for the highest redshifts, where the signal-to-noise ratio is generally too low to apply this technique, this approach yields uncertainties that are smaller than or comparable to previous work.</description><source format="bibcode">2008ApJ...673..981K</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/673/981</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/673/981</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/673/981</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/673/981</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/673/981</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/673/981</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/673/981</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/673/981/tables (Candidates Selected at the end of stage 2 for Samples 1, 2, 3 and 4 (tables 4-7 of the paper))</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/673/981/tables?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/673/981/tables?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/673/981/tables?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>189.27890833</ra><dec>62.15439167</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/11252 35935</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/673/981?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/673/981/tables</name><description>Candidates Selected at the end of stage 2 for Samples 1, 2, 3 and 4 (tables 4-7 of the paper)</description><column><name>z</name><description>?
