From SDSS spectra of 615 high-redshift (1.69&lt;z&lt;4.75) quasars with spectra from two epochs, we estimate black hole masses using a single-epoch technique, which employs an additional, automated night-sky line removal and relies on UV continuum luminosity and CIV {lambda}1549 emission-line dispersion. Mass estimates show variations between epochs at about the 30% level for the sample as a whole. We determine that for our full sample, measurement error in the line dispersion likely plays a larger role than the inherent variability in terms of contributing to variations in mass estimates between epochs. However, we use the variations in quasars with r-band spectral signal-to-noise ratio greater than 15 to estimate that the contribution to these variations from inherent variability is roughly 20%. We conclude that these differences in black hole mass estimates between epochs indicate that variability does not make a large contribution to the current factor of 2 scatter between mass estimates derived from low- and high-ionization emission lines.</description><source format="bibcode">2007ApJ...669..791W</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/ApJ/669/791</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/613/682">J/ApJ/613/682 : AGN central masses &amp; broad-line region sizes (Peterson+, 2004)</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://www.sdss.org : SDSS Home Page</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/669/791</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/669/791</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/ApJ/669/791</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/669/791</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/669/791</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/ApJ/669/791</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/ApJ/669/791/qsos (Variable quasar sample)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/669/791/qsos?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/669/791/qsos?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/ApJ/669/791/qsos?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>151.4309167</ra><dec>-0.9333056</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/1484 1561 1567 2493 2555 2838 2861 4437 4442 4506 4709 4937 5797 6485 6490 6551 6553 6557 6741 6821 6/0 1 2 4234 5759 5847 5915 5918 5928 5929 5930 5940 5941 5942 5945 5948 6016 6017 6243 6258 6265 6267 6440 6510 6511 6593 6594 6595 6596 6597 6599 8192 8193 9823 9841 9843 9844 9846 9847 9851 9852 9950 9971 9980 10214 10217 10219 10232 11343 11346 11347 11356 11423 11449 11464 11466 11488 11490 11589 11591 11600 17745 17756 17757 17762 17763 17772 17774 17814 17815 17821 17981 18030 18062 18063 18072 18087 18098 18113 18367 18410 18411 18750 18765 18776 18779 18782 18800 18801 18833 18835 18844 18845 18882 19035 19322 19399 19408 19410 19416 19417 19420 19726 19727 19738 19753 19756 19760 19761 19763 19776 21979 21981 21982 21983 22001 22003 22005 23102 23103 23183 23186 23187 23192 23193 23196 23197 23201 23203 23205 23206 23207 23210 23211 23212 23216 23218 23232 23234 25598 25838 25839 25855 25934 25935 25937 25956 25958 25959 25968 25970 25997 25999 26002 26003 26008 26010 26011 26012 26021 26023 26024 26025 26029 26034 26049 26175 26180 26181 26188 26189 26193 26194 26197 26199 26201 26203 26209 26211 26217 26220 26221 26236 26237 26261 26282 26305 26368 26369 26370 26941 26942 26943 26961 26962 26963 26968 26969 26971 26972 26973 26974 26986 26993 27074 27214 27237 27239 27245 27248 27281 27283 27289 27292 27650 31401 31402 31403 36862 36863 45053 45054 45055</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/ApJ/669/791?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>UV</waveband><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/ApJ/669/791/qsos</name><description>Variable quasar sample</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
