This system was initially reported as a planetary candidate based on two transit events seen in K2 Campaign 1 photometry and later validated as an exoplanet candidate. We confirm the transit and refine the ephemeris with two subsequent ground-based detections of the transit using the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope 1m telescope network. We rule out any transit timing variations above the level of ~30s. Using high precision radial velocity measurements from HARPS and SOPHIE we identify the transiting companion as a brown dwarf with a mass, radius, and bulk density of 66.9+/-1.7M_J_, 0.757+/-0.065R_J_, and 191+/-51g/cm^3^ respectively. EPIC 201702477b is the smallest radius brown dwarf yet discovered, with a mass just below the H-burning limit. It has the highest density of any planet, substellar mass object, or main-sequence star discovered so far. We find evidence in the set of known transiting brown dwarfs for two populations of objects-high mass brown dwarfs and low mass brown dwarfs. The higher-mass population have radii in very close agreement to theoretical models, and show a lower-mass limit around 60M_J_. This may be the signature of mass-dependent ejection of systems during the formation process.</description><source format="bibcode">2017AJ....153...15B</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/AJ/153/15</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/594/A100">J/A+A/594/A100 : K2 new planetary and EB candidates (Barros+, 2016)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/146/113">J/AJ/146/113 : Differential griz photometry of HATS-3 (Bayliss+, 2013)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/523/A88">J/A+A/523/A88 : A Jupiter-mass companion around HD 109246 (Boisse+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/505/853">J/A+A/505/853 : HD16760 radial velocity curve (Bouchy+, 2009)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/153/15</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/153/15</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/153/15</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/153/15</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/153/15</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/153/15</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><coverage><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc"/><waveband>Infrared</waveband><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/AJ/153/15/table1</name><description>r-band differential photometry for EPIC 201702477 from LCOGT 1m</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
