We combine ground-based discovery and follow-up light curves with high precision photometry from K2, as well as ground-based radial velocities from the Tillinghast Reflector Echelle Spectrograph on the Fred Lawrence Whipple Observatory 1.5m telescope to determine the physical properties of this system. HAT-P-56b has a mass of 2.18M_J_, radius of 1.47R_J_, and transits its host star on a near-grazing orbit with a period of 2.7908day. The radius of HAT-P-56b is among the largest known for a planet with M_P_&gt;2M_J_. The host star has a V-band magnitude of 10.9, mass of 1.30M_{sun}_, and radius of 1.43R_{sun}_. The periodogram of the K2 light curve suggests that the star is a {gamma} Dor variable. HAT-P-56b is an example of a ground-based discovery of a transiting planet, where space-based observations greatly improve the confidence in the confirmation of its planetary nature, and also improve the accuracy of the planetary parameters.</description><source format="bibcode">2015AJ....150...85H</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/AJ/150/85</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/149/149">J/AJ/149/149 : Photometry and spectroscopy of HAT-P-54 (Bakos+, 2015)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/147/84">J/AJ/147/84 : Photometry and spectroscopy of HAT-P-49 (Bieryla+, 2014)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/429/2001">J/MNRAS/429/2001 : New transiting planet candidates from Kepler (Huang+, 2013)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/144/139">J/AJ/144/139 : HAT-P-39, HAT-P-40, and HAT-P-41 follow-up (Hartman+, 2012)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/734/109">J/ApJ/734/109 : Follow-up photometry of HAT-P-27 (Beky+, 2011)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/720/1118">J/ApJ/720/1118 : i-band photometry of HAT-P-16 (Buchhave+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/710/1724">J/ApJ/710/1724 : Follow-up photometry for HAT-P-11 (Bakos+, 2010)</relatedResource><relatedResource>http://hatnet.org/ : HATNet website</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/150/85</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/150/85</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/150/85</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/150/85</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/150/85</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/150/85</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><coverage><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc"/></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/AJ/150/85/table2</name><description>Relative radial velocities, and bisector span measurements of HAT-P-56</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
