In this paper, we present the results from using image subtraction photometry to reduce a crowded stellar field observed with one of the HATnet telescopes (HAT-5). This field was chosen to overlap with the planned Kepler mission. We obtained I-band light curves for 98,000 objects in a 67 square degree field of view centered at J2000 ({alpha},{delta})=(19h44m00.0s, +37{deg}32'00.0"), near the Galactic plane in the constellations Cygnus and Lyra. These observations include 788 exposures of 5' length over 30-days. For the brightest stars (I~8.0) we achieved a precision of 3.5mmag, falling to 0.1mag at the faint end (I~14). From these light curves we identify 1617 variable stars, of which 1439 are newly discovered.</description><source format="bibcode">2004AJ....128.1761H</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/AJ/128/1761</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource>http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/~gbakos/HAT/LC/199/ : Catalog and Light Curves</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/250">II/250 : Combined General Catalogue of Variable Stars (Samus+ 2004)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/II/246">II/246 : 2MASS All-Sky Catalog of Point Sources (Cutri+ 2003)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/128/1761</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/128/1761</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/128/1761</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/128/1761</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/128/1761</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/128/1761</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/AJ/128/1761/table1 (HAT Catalog of "Kepler Field" Variables)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/128/1761/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/128/1761/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/128/1761/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>296.205375</ra><dec>37.5498889</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>4/909 920 5/3615 3635 3641 3644-3645 3647 3658-3659 3684 3688 6/14455 14459 14535 14539 14584-14585 14587 14624 14626-14627 14650 14744-14746 14756-14758 14760-14762 14929 14932-14933</spatial><spectral>1.1166583743361574e-19 2.6706780932288093e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/AJ/128/1761?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/AJ/128/1761/table1</name><description>HAT Catalog of "Kepler Field" Variables</description><column><name>Per</name><description>?
