We use these data together with published redshifts and bj apparent magnitudes from the APM Bright Galaxy Survey in order to estimate the shape of the Luminosity Function of a total sample of 535 ellipticals. We use the Maximum Likelihood method for the determination of the best fitting parameters {alpha} and M^*^ of a Schechter Function. In order to provide tests for systematics and suitable error estimates we apply Monte Carlo techniques which are also used to deal with incompleteness effects in the data. In agreement with other authors our results indicate a relative lack of low luminosity ellipticals compared to other morphological types. The best fitting shape parameters derived are {alpha}=0.20+/-0.25 and M^*^_Bj_=-20.0+/-0.3. We do not find evidence for a dependence of these parameters on environment.</description><source format="bibcode">1995AJ....110.1032M</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/AJ/110/1032</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/278/1025">J/MNRAS/278/1025 : The APM Bright Galaxy Catalogue (Loveday 1996)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/110/1032</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/110/1032</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/110/1032</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/110/1032</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/110/1032</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/110/1032</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/AJ/110/1032/table1 (New radial velocities of APM Bright Galaxies Survey (APMBGS) ellipticals)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/110/1032/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/110/1032/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/110/1032/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>0.154583</ra><dec>-27.68125</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/16387 16401 16406 16413 16418 16421 16442 16447 16451 16458 16460 16468 16523 16528 16533-16534 16539 16560 16579 16619 16665 16674 16744 16809 16976 21153 33432 33469 33487 33495 33524 33529 33533-33534 33666 33716 33720 33950 33959 34038 34305 34307 34361 34386 34420 34437 34451 34455 34463 34465 34490 34496 34695 34828 34869 34876 34909 34950-34951 34960 35037 35055 35071 35079 35089 35091 35106 35113 35171 35179 35258 35330 35348 35392 35437 35464 35473 35483 35487 35491 35493 35530 35536-35538 35552 35578 35590 35595 35641 35664 35708 35724 35731 35742 35797 35942 35988 36011 36159 36263 36377 36392 36408 36429 36459 36500 45271 45278 45338 45356 45388-45389 45437 45459 45491 45504 45516 45528 45547 45560 45838 45849-45850 45872-45873 45880 45907 45917 45939 45953 45956 45958 45980-45981 46019 46031 46038-46040 46043-46046 46060 46064-46066 46070-46071 46077 46094 46106 46193 46247 46254 46303 46314 46323 46329 46331 46334 46362 46370 46385 46389 46394 46397 46399 46416-46417 46464 46470 46478 46547 46556 46595 46599 46618 46626 46636 46640 46642 46651-46652 46654 46656 46663-46665 46667 46669 46699 46714 46723 46725 46728 46734-46735 46739-46740 46746 46752 46760 46763-46764 46766 46772 46794 46816 46827-46829 46881 46906 46933 46936 46943 47003 47439 47441 47450 47455 47460 47474 47476-47477 47479 47484-47485 47487 48128-48129 48133 48135 48137 48140 48154 48171 48174 48176 48180 48185 48187 48257 48259-48260</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/AJ/110/1032?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/AJ/110/1032/table1</name><description>New radial velocities of APM Bright Galaxies Survey (APMBGS) ellipticals</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
