For the first time, the cluster's entire giant branch and its horizontal branch are delineated, from which metallicity ([Fe/H]~-1.4) and distance (d__{sun}_~28kpc; d_GC_~27kpc) estimates ensue. NGC 6229 is found to have a relatively blue horizontal branch for its intermediate metallicity, which is unusual for an outer halo cluster. Its low R value (defined as N_HB_/N_RG_) hints that the blue color of its horizontal branch is due to a lower than average helium abundance. Three possible new variable stars are identified, including one RR Lyrae and two long-period variables. We present a brief review of our knowledge of basic data for the 13 globular clusters lying more than 24 kpc from the Galactic center. The unusually red horizontal branch phenomenon is common only among the outermost clusters. An average R value for these clusters suggests the effect is not caused by an overabundance of helium. The Oosterhoff dichotomy apparently persists into the outer halo, although the number of clusters with RR Lyrae variables is small.</description><source format="bibcode">1991AJ....101.1699C</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/AJ/101/1699</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/102/17">J/ApJ/102/17 : V light curves of variable stars in NGC 6229 (Baade+, 1945)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/452/727">J/MNRAS/452/727 : NGC 6229 variable VI light curves (Arellano Ferro+, 2015)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/other/MmSAI/31.187">J/other/MmSAI/31.187 : Light curves of 12 variables in NGC 6229 (Mannino, 1960)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/101/1699</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/101/1699</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/AJ/101/1699</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/101/1699</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/101/1699</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/AJ/101/1699</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/AJ/101/1699/table3 (*Photometric data)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/101/1699/table3?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/101/1699/table3?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/AJ/101/1699/table3?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>251.73665</ra><dec>47.54634</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/10008</spatial><spectral>3.322582951404819e-19 3.852589004194616e-19</spectral><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/AJ/101/1699?format=ascii</footprint></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/AJ/101/1699/table3</name><description>*Photometric data</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
