The goal is to determine light curves and period-luminosity (PL) relations in the near-IR, to assess the similarity between cluster and field pulsators, and to examine the predictive capability of current pulsation models. The light curves are obtained from multiwavelength broadband J,H,Ks photometry of Cepheids in both clusters, with periods previously established from optical photometry. Mean magnitudes for the Cepheids are used to construct period-luminosity (PL) relations in the near-IR. The properties in the PL planes are compared with the behavior of field Cepheids in the LMC and with the predictions of recent pulsational models, both canonical and overluminous. Cluster and field Cepheids are homogeneous and the inclusion of the cluster Cepheids in the field sample extends the PL relation. The slope of the PL relation is constant over the whole period range and does not show, at least in the adopted IR bands, the break in slope at P~10d reported by some authors. A comparison with the predictions of pulsation models allows an estimate for the distance moduli of NGC 1866 and NGC 2031. The two clusters are found to lie at essentially the same distance. Fitting of theoretical models to the data gives, for the K filter, (m-M)_0_=18.62+/-0.10 if canonical models are used and (m-M)_0_=18.42+/-0.10 if overluminous models are used.</description><source format="bibcode">2007A&amp;A...462..599T</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/A+A/462/599</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/224/61">J/MNRAS/224/61 : NGC 6649 UBV photometry (Walker+ 1987)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AcA/49/543">J/AcA/49/543 : OGLE LMC + SMC Cepheids VI photometry (Pietrzynski+, 1999)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+AS/145/365">J/A+AS/145/365 : BVI photometry of NGC 7790 (Gupta+, 2000)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/440/487">J/A+A/440/487 : Cepheids in the young LMC cluster NGC 1866 (Storm+, 2005)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/370/1979">J/MNRAS/370/1979 : Type II Cepheids in GC JHKs photometry (Matsunaga+, 2006)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/462/599</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/462/599</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/462/599</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/462/599</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/462/599</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/462/599</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><coverage><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc"/><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/A+A/462/599/table23</name><description>Mean IR magnitudes for Cepheids in NGC 1866 &amp; NGC 2031</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
