Our sample consists of 359 sources selected in the hard 2-8keV band, spanning the flux range 6x10^-16^-3x10^-13^erg/cm^2^/s with a high rate of spectroscopic or photometric redshift completeness (100 and 85 per cent respectively for the Chandra and XMM-Newton data). We derive the column density values using X-ray spectral fits. We find that the fraction of obscured AGN falls with increasing luminosity in agreement with previous findings. The fraction of obscured AGN shows an apparent increase at high redshifts (z&gt;2). Simulations show that this effect can most probably be attributed to the fact that at high redshifts the column densities are overestimated.</description><source format="bibcode">2006A&amp;A...459..693A</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/A+A/459/693</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/444/79">J/A+A/444/79 : XMM obs. of Lockman Hole brightest AGNs (Mateos+, 2005)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/366/171">J/MNRAS/366/171 : Red AGN in XMM/SDSS fields (Georgakakis+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/451/457">J/A+A/451/457 : X-ray properties of AGN in CDFS (Tozzi+, 2006)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/ApJ/640/167">J/ApJ/640/167 : AGNs and ULIRGs in the CDF-South (Alonso-Herrero+, 2006)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/459/693</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/459/693</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/459/693</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/459/693</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/459/693</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/459/693</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/A+A/459/693/table2 (The X-ray spectral fitting results for the 153 sources of our XMM-Newton/SDSS sample)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/459/693/table2?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/459/693/table2?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/459/693/table2?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>10.696</ra><dec>1.005</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/7242-7243 7280-7281 7308-7310 7552 11253 11347 11353 11596 11791 11802 11932-11933 11936 11938 17300 17749 17817 17819 17840-17842 18112 18114 18800 23149 23151 23190-23191 23210 26019-26020 26022-26023 26028 26175 36785</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/A+A/459/693?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>X-ray</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/A+A/459/693/table2</name><description>The X-ray spectral fitting results for the 153 sources of our XMM-Newton/SDSS sample</description><column><name>z</name><description>?
