The stellar surface density profile of NGC 185 follows a power law with an exponential scale length of 2.53+/-0.07'. The surface density of C stars follows also a power law but with a smaller scale length, 1.56+/-0.06, demonstrating that the intermediate-age population of NGC 185 is more concentrated than its old population. A tidal radius, r_t_=22.5+/-2.2' is determined from red giant star counts. The C/M ratio of NGC 185 is 0.17+/-0.02 with no apparent sign of a radial gradient. We compare the carbon star populations of NGC 185 and NGC 147 to conclude that it is unlikely that they form a close pair.</description><source format="bibcode">2004A&amp;A...417..479B</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/A+A/417/479</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/119/2780">J/AJ/119/2780 : C stars in IC 1613 (Albert+, 2000)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/120/1801">J/AJ/120/1801 : C stars in Pegasus, DDO 210 and Tucana (Battinelli+, 2000)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/123/832">J/AJ/123/832 : C star population in NGC 6822 (Letarte+, 2002)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/AJ/125/1298">J/AJ/125/1298 : C star population in outer disk of M31 (Battinelli+, 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/410/795">J/A+A/410/795 : Photometry of NGC 3109 carbon stars (Demers+, 2003)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/416/111">J/A+A/416/111 : C stars in Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte galaxy (Battinelli+, 2004)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/417/479</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/417/479</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/417/479</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/417/479</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/417/479</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/417/479</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/A+A/417/479/table2 (Positions and photometry of 145 C stars)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/417/479/table2?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/417/479/table2?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/417/479/table2?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>9.5297083</ra><dec>48.2626944</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/2774 2780</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/A+A/417/479?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband><waveband>Infrared</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/A+A/417/479/table2</name><description>Positions and photometry of 145 C stars</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
