The survey extends up to 3{deg} from the cluster center and is 90% complete down to I~=22. It covers a mass range from 0.03M_{sun}_ to 0.48M_{sun}_ and yields 40 brown dwarf candidates (BDCs) of which 29 are new. The spatial distribution of BDCs is fitted by a King profile in order to estimate the cluster substellar core radius. The Pleiades mass function is then derived across the stellar-substellar boundary and we find that, between 0.03M_{sun}_ and 0.48M_{sun}_, it is well represented by a single power-law, dN/dM{prop.to}M^-{alpha}^, with an index alpha=0.60+/-0.11. Over a larger mass domain, however, from 0.03M_{sun}_ to 10M_{sun}_, the mass function is better fitted by a log-normal function. We estimate that brown dwarfs represent about 25% of the cluster population which nevertheless makes up less than 1.5% of the cluster mass. The early dynamical evolution of the cluster appears to have had little effect on its present mass distribution at an age of 120Myr. Comparison between the Pleiades mass function and the Galactic field mass function suggests that apparent differences may be mostly due to unresolved binary systems.</description><source format="bibcode">2003A&amp;A...400..891M</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/A+A/400/891</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/323/139">J/A+A/323/139 : K magnitude of Pleiades low-mass binaries (Bouvier+ 1997)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/335/183">J/A+A/335/183 : Pleiades low-mass stars rotational velocities (Queloz+ 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+AS/100/607">J/A+AS/100/607 : Pleiades very low-mass proper motion members (Hambly+ 1993)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/MNRAS/313/347">J/MNRAS/313/347 : Pleiades low-mass stars and brown dwarfs (Pinfield+, 2000)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/400/891</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/400/891</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/400/891</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/400/891</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/400/891</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/400/891</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/A+A/400/891/table3 (I and Z photometry of Pleiades star members)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/400/891/table3?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/400/891/table3?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/400/891/table3?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>57.798125</ra><dec>24.3870278</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>5/118 124 6/465-467 478 485 500 504</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/A+A/400/891?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/A+A/400/891/table3</name><description>I and Z photometry of Pleiades star members</description><column><name>I-Z</name><description>I-Z color index</description><unit>mag</unit><ucd>phot.color</ucd><dataType xsi:type="vs:VOTableType">float</dataType></column><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
