A re-analysis of the Hipparcos photometric and astrometric data (Cat. &lt;I/239&gt;) does not confirm the VIM solution for 62 among the 288 VIM objects (21%) in the Hipparcos catalogue. Most of these 288 VIMs are long-period (e.g. Mira) variables (LPV). The effect of a revised chromaticity correction, which accounts for the color variations along the light cycle, was then investigated. It is based on "instantaneous" V-I color indices derived from Hipparcos and Tycho-2 (Cat. &lt;I/259&gt;) epoch photometry. Among the 188 LPVs flagged as VIM in the Hipparcos catalogue, 89 (47%) are not confirmed as VIM after this improved chromaticity correction is applied. This dramatic decrease in the number of VIM solutions is not surprising, since the chromaticity correction applied by the Hipparcos reduction consortia was based on a fixed V-I color. Astrophysical considerations lead us to adopt a more stringent criterion for accepting a VIM solution (first-kind risk of 0.27% instead of 10% as in the Hipparcos catalogue). With this more severe criterion, only 27 LPV stars remain VIM, thus rejecting 161 of the 188 (86%) of the LPVs defined as VIMs in the Hipparcos catalogue.</description><source format="bibcode">2003A&amp;A...399.1167P</source><referenceURL>https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/cat/J/A+A/399/1167</referenceURL><type>Catalog</type><contentLevel>Research</contentLevel><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/TAP">TAP VizieR generic service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>IsServedBy</relationshipType><relatedResource>Conesearch service</relatedResource></relationship><relationship><relationshipType>related-to</relationshipType><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/239">I/239 : The Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues (ESA 1997)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/250">I/250 : The Tycho Reference Catalogue (Hog+ 1998)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/I/259">I/259 : The Tycho-2 Catalogue (Hog+ 2000)</relatedResource><relatedResource ivo-id="ivo://CDS.VizieR/J/A+A/397/997">J/A+A/397/997 : Hipparcos red stars (Platais+, 2003)</relatedResource></relationship></content><rights>https://cds.unistra.fr/vizier-org/licences_vizier.html</rights><capability><interface xsi:type="vr:WebBrowser"><accessURL use="full">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/399/1167</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/399/1167</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/VizieR-2?-source=J/A+A/399/1167</mirrorURL></interface></capability><capability><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/399/1167</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/399/1167</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/votable?-source=J/A+A/399/1167</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface></capability><capability standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/TAP#aux"><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://tapvizier.cds.unistra.fr/TAPVizieR/tap</accessURL></interface></capability><capability xsi:type="cs:ConeSearch" standardID="ivo://ivoa.net/std/ConeSearch"><description>Cone search capability for table J/A+A/399/1167/table1 (*188 red Variability-Induced Movers (VIM) from the Hipparcos catalogue)</description><interface xsi:type="vs:ParamHTTP" role="std"><accessURL use="base">https://vizier.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/399/1167/table1?</accessURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at IUCAA: Pune, India">https://vizier.iucaa.in/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/399/1167/table1?</mirrorURL><mirrorURL title="VizieR at SAAO: SAAO, South Africa">http://vizieridia.saao.ac.za/viz-bin/conesearch/J/A+A/399/1167/table1?</mirrorURL><queryType>GET</queryType><resultType>text/xml+votable</resultType></interface><maxSR>180.0</maxSR><maxRecords>50000</maxRecords><verbosity>true</verbosity><testQuery><ra>2.192469</ra><dec>-86.188489</dec><sr>0.005555555555555556</sr></testQuery></capability><coverage><spatial>6/366 811 958 1411 1823 1928 2602 2694 2740 2809 2880 2911 2994 3026 3089 3257 3262 3438 3567 3604 4107 4355 4614 4635 4708 4892 5009 5647 6399 6407 6860 6885 6919 7288 7758 7881 8550 9074 9137 9258 9367 9596 9738 9782 10137 10188 10570 10635 11239 11747 11928 12756 12871 12925 13500 13631 13813 13845 14212 14288 14447 14457 14644 14649 14772 14894 15401 15445 15538 15892 16019 16132 16175 16233 16459 16470 16943 17223 17537 18547 18998 19950 20102 20110 20212 20458 20626 21050 21580 21585 21854 22041 22333 22941 22964 23423 23854 23932 24158 24334 24476 24708 25228 25246 25544 25798 26319 26331 26360 26415 27138 27301 28028 28364 28713 28799 28917 29000 29017 29045 29109 29286 29736 29817 30606 31292 31664 31705 31764 32081 32259 32311 32573 32784 32802 33233 33370 33525 33585 33739-33740 33938 34576 34844 35038 35641 36117 36233 36320 36678 37307 38104 38230 38505 39487 39933 40094 40422 40976 41118 41572 41629 42125 42530 42679 42702 42840 42960 43017 43088 43161 43258 43454 43890 44018 44198 44417 45591 45809 46318 46334 47348 47661 48464 48650 48700 49123</spatial><footprint ivo-id="ivo://ivoa.net/std/moc">https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/viz-bin/moc/J/A+A/399/1167?format=ascii</footprint><waveband>Optical</waveband></coverage><tableset><schema><name>default</name><table><name>J/A+A/399/1167/table1</name><description>*188 red Variability-Induced Movers (VIM) from the Hipparcos catalogue</description><column><name>recno</name><description>Record number assigned by the VizieR team.
